Instalacija Amerika obuhvata tri fotografije, jednu poštansku marku i hiljadu crteža.

Marka sadrži tekst LIBERTY FOR ALL i tekst US AIR MAIL, i nominalnu vrijednost od 15 centi. Tu je i trag poštanskog pečata, odnosno kružni otisak teksta NEW YORK N.Y.

The Penultimate exhibition

The title of the exhibition points to the inexpediency of far-reaching plans and creation in context of forced solutions. The exhibition consists of four parts: 1) photographs from Donau and Anticipation series; 2) photographs from Das Ding series and Das Ding installation; 3) Višegrad animation and the drawings from Višegrad series; 4) Amerika installation.

The photographs from Donau and Anticipation series show certain time section from the duration of some ephemeral and unexpected occurrences.

The photographs from Das Ding series represent the study of the ordinary, which is translated into the context of art through taking photographs (as a decision).

It is about a kind of apotheosis, which has nothing of emancipatory and well-calculated practice. Photographing, in Donau, Anticipation and Das Ding series, is done believing that there is still something to photograph, if it amazes us. And to be clearer, let us remember, with melancholy, how we would gasp, caught without a camera, while it was stopping.

Višegrad animation was created based on an amateur and trivial video (from 2004), whose frames were transposed into drawings. The drawings were photographed (in a specific environment) and mounted, that is, animated.

13 drawings composing the animation are exhibited. Višegrad animation has dedicated, designed sound. Miodrag Manojlović is the animator, and Ivan Elezović is the sound designer.

Amerika installation comprises three photographs, one postage stamp and one thousand drawings. The series of drawings began in 2015 and consists of ten volumes. The motive is the sculpture near New York (on Liberty Island), known as Statue of Liberty.

Drawings are done according to the illustration of Statue of Liberty on a postage stamp – official name Statue of Liberty– put into circulation in 1961 in Buffalo (New York). The stamp contains the text LIBERTY FOR ALL and the text US AIR MAIL, and 15 cent denomination. There is also a postal stamp mark, that is, circular imprint of the text NEW YORK N.Y. It was bought in Zemun in 2011.

The photographs were taken in 2009, on 21st February on Liberty Island, 24th February at 53rd Street, New York, and on 26th February in The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The drawings and the photographs are a form of the question What is America to me (that it was not to Kafka)? If it refers to distinguishing friends from enemies, then this question is a political one (similar to Schmitt and Agamben). If the question is private, it can be expressed in Eliot’s verses from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock:

Should I, after tea and cakes and ices,

Have the strength to force the moment to its crises?

The orientation towards America and its metaphors is not without existential drama. The drawing process is devoid of certainty and close to expressionism (although the postage stamp is no further or closer to art than packet soup, for example).
